“What does it mean to go to school at a place where you’re never alone?” - Also from the article mentioned from the previous post.
Never alone? You can be at a party, 40 people smiling and eating around you and be alone. You can be sleeping with ten people breathing next to you and be alone. Alone isn’t just physical; alone is a mental state. Alone can mean loneliness or simply solitude, quiet and restful, or tormented by the whirling dervishes that infest your mind.
If there’s so much time spent schooling that you cannot think, then you cannot think enough to know whether you’re alone. But I’ve yet to see students who don’t crack, who don’t doubt. It’s that quiet moment before e answers your question, in a flutter of a heartbeat and a flicker of confusion, and then you know they’ve been alone.
