Night
Oddly enough, it’s 4 AM in the morning and I’m still wide awake. I flick off the lights in my bedroom and sit on the edge of my bed. Somehow it isn’t cold in my pajamas. Somehow, despite just turning off the lights, my night vision is clear and I can see the shadowy furniture.
I close my eyes. Slowly I begin to rock backwards and forwards. I was told once that this would help you find your center of balance. Forwards… back… to the left… to the right… the wind howls gently outside as my muscles unwind. I still my movement for a moment that stretches into indeterminate minutes. The wind howls on, and flashes of the day flicker through distantly. Maybe I’m the only one left. Maybe this stillness is forever, of peace and dark and cold that doesn’t seep in.
